Writing Phone Numbers on Resume - Do You Really Know How to Get Them Right?
Writing Phone Numbers on Resume - Do You Really Know How to Get Them Right? What is the best way to write phone numbers on resume? It can be a bit challenging to get your words out there. It can also get confusing and difficult to make it all work out if you don't know how to do it.The best way to get numbers off of a resume, and the best way to do it without sounding like a moron, is to just sit back and let them come to you. You can type them out and just choose them when you need them, but you won't always get the spelling and grammar correct. That's just not what you're going for. If you want to impress a hiring manager, then you need to get it right the first time. One of the reasons it can be hard to write phone numbers on resume is because they are very similar and for some reason we all just kind of fall back on the same old styles. So you can't really do anything about that, but you can certainly improve the way you choose to spell them.First of all, try to think about some di fferent ways of spelling phone numbers. For example, would you prefer the letters C and V? Are you thinking that instead of '43' you'd like to spell it '43-4', or even '43 and four'? And if so, you probably get the idea. When you get ready to do it yourself, put a sheet of paper in front of you that lists the numbers you want to use. On each one, write the name of the phone company, and the phone number. Then go back over your list and try to write the numbers that you don't have.Next, go over your list with some extra information about the business, like the locations of the offices and thephone numbers of the main contact persons. Write down their phone numbers, and consider whether you'd rather give them a 'home' or an 'office' telephone number. Just as an aside, if the business is in New York, you might want to give it a 'Manhattan' phone number instead of a 'Manhattan office'. (This is not as much fun, but I am sure you will remember it and be able to use it for future reference .)Finally, go over your list again and choose the phone numbers that you think sound best. If you have questions, write them down too. If you are trying to find the phone number of the CEO, just put his name in the blank space, and then write 'headphone'. That's it.

Ace your next interview with the correct body language
Ace your next interview with the correct body language677Jennifer ConnellyI know its easier said than done but fake it till you make it actually works here. The body position is usually determined subconsciously and luckily for us, it works in reverse as well. Consciously assuming a position of confidence will affect the subconscious perception of whats happening and boost your self-confidence.Trick your subconscious into confidence by consciously taking a power position. No need to push yourself in front of the mirror every day to train confidence, though. Its pretty easy to fake it in a short conversation. With just a bit of practice, it will come naturally to you and you will soon be in control of your body language. One good thing to mention here is that we naturally copy the body language of the partie were conversing with. Being in sync with the other person will make them feel safer and will create a seamless connection. You do elend have to mirror them on purpose, however. This will occur by itself. There are four pieces which determine proper, confident body language. Head, shoulders, hands and feet. These four chunks send their own individual messages and any one of them can give you out.Now on how to control them, lets start with the head.Head dont fixate your eyes, dont be defiant, nodBesides talking, the position of the head and the gestures you do with it have a great importance in non-verbal communication. Apart from some cultural differences (yes is no and no is yes in Bulgaria, or bobbing your head from side to side in India to show agreement) there are several gestures which are universal.Lifting your chin up shows arrogance, letting it down shows submission.Nodding (or bobbing) occasionally shows agreement, understanding or that youre overall listening. You want to keep your head leveled with the person youre talking with. However, if their chin is a bit up, assuming the saatkorn position as theirs shows defiance.Eyes play a big role in interper sonal communication. A lovers gaze can empty your head. A fleeting moment of eye contact with a cute passer-by combined with a slight smile will make your day.Make eye contact, its importantOn the other hand, looking straight at the person uninterruptedly is obviously creepy. No seriously, its creepy. Let your gaze wander naturally around the room youre in but try to make some eye contact when the person is speaking to you to show that youre listening. When its your turn to talk maintain some level of eye contact but dont stare at them. Looking at the person youre talking with shows youre interested in getting the message across and want them to trust what youre saying. If youre interviewed by two people, make sure you look at both of them while talking. Its bedrngnis a monolog, its a conversation.Eye contact is hard to get right therefore dont sweat it too much unless you know you look around too much, then dont. I know Im not making it easy, sorry. Our bodies have a language of their own.Travis Bradberry Legs knees close but not touching, heels on the floorWhere are you sitting? Is it an amtsstube, a cafe or a lounge? Is it an office chair or a sofa? Regardless what the answer is, the rule is as followsSit with your thighs parallel to the floor and your back straight. These two factors alone will find you a stable position that allows for good posture.Try to sit anywhere between the center and the edge of the chair, this way youll be comfortably planted in the chair and have great posture. DO NOT extend your feet forward, youre not chilling with your besties. If you do these two things, your position should be impeccable.Bend your knees inward a littleThighs parallel to the floorPlace your heels on the floor, toes facing straight or slightly sideways.Ready? Go. In a rare case that your seat is too high for all three things to happen at once, find a position that doesnt put stress on your legs. Shaky legs mimic nervousness.People judge you by your body language , but you can also impact how you perform based on what you do with your body.Jeff HadenA note here is If your toes face inwards it shows insecurity, discomfort or intimidation. If your heels are not touching the floor it means youre anxious, ready to spring, in a fight-or-flight position. Neither of these perceptions is good for you. Giving off the vibe that youre intimidated makes people trust your words less. If youre intimidated youre scared if youre scared youll say anything to get yourself out of that situation. Paired with the ready to spring out of there, creates a pretty uncomfortable atmosphere.Related articlesWhat stops us from changing careers? What should a cover letter include in 2018?7 Mistakes That Are Common In College Students Resumes and How to Fix ThemMaybe theres a table between you and now youre thinking Well the interviewer cant binnensee my legs so I can be as shaky as I want. Men should not cross their legs, and their knees shouldnt be touching. A position where your knees are slightly apart facing forward is appropriate in both cases.DO NOT SLOUCH.Upper body were not intimidating anyone here, keep it normalNow that youre sitting like a champ, your chest and shoulders come into play. Unless youre a Magnificent Frigatebird, chest too far forward communicates dominance and adversarialism. The straight back (which happens when you sit like a champ will automatically bring your chest in a confident but neutral position which also allows for easy breathing. Your shoulders are now in a good position too. If you arch your shoulders back too much it will puff your chest. On the other hand, bringing your shoulders inwards will show embarras sment and submission. Keep them comfortably straight.Dont suck your belly in.Sucking your belly in will prevent you from breathing normally and will cause you to talk funny or run out of breath. Straight back equals natural position, take advantage of it.DO NOT SLOUCH to any side. Sit straight.Hands youre not an Air Dancer but gesticulating is goodThe biggest problem here is, if youre nervous, your hands will start shaking and gesticulating properly will be hard. Worry not my friend, there is an easy hack here and its calledDont think about it.Rick SanchezThe more you think about it the longer it will continue, a watched pot never boils, focus on other things. You want your arms down alongside your body, rest your hands on your lap in a comfortable position with your elbows facing slightly outwards. If you glue your elbows to your body that will bring your shoulders down and now you look intimidated. No good.A little bit of fidgeting is okay and none is perfect. None is achieved by using your hands to gesticulate.Dont flail your arms like your life depends on it.Draw imaginary shapes, plot graphs, do the robot (dont do the robot), they all help contribute to your argument or story.DO NOT POINT.Yeah, you. Im talking to you. Its aggressive, dont do it. Oh, one more thing. If youre sitting at a table, place your forearms and hands on the table, elbows sticking out. Hiding your hands under the table is the same as hiding your hands behind your back.It means youre lying.Dont lie.Since hands are such an important utensil to communication, hiding them indicates that youre lying. So does covering your mouth while you speak and scratching the back of your head or side of your neck or your ears or your nose or just dont touch your face and head. Do something else with your hands. Heres a checklist for youDont shove your hands between your thighs,Dont put them in your pocket,Dont clutch your hands together,Dont break your fingers andDont rest with only one elbow on the a rmrest.Acing the interview might sound like a daunting task but isnt that why youre going to an interview to begin with? Rehearse these while out with friends or while just sitting around. This is why parents cant make their kids successful
This is why parents cant make their kids successfulThis is why parents cant make their kids successfulA childsfuture successhas never been guaranteed, but past generations of parents had every reason to feel confident their kids would be better off. Unfortunately,as economic inequality has increasedsince the late 1970s, generational progress has ceased to be par for the American course Gen Xers were about even with their parents, but most Millenials are worse off than their predominantly boomer parents. The crumbling promise of upward mobility makes raising conventionally successful kids a much morehigh-stakes pursuit for parents. Enter so-called experts eager to capitalize on collective anxiety. As of May 7, whenHoughton Mifflin Harcourt dropped herHow to Raise Successful People, Esther Wojcicki, the godmother of Silicon Valley, is the queen for the day of the genre. Her book, which well written and laudable in a number of ways, should make parents nervous and not only because thats what it was designed to do.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreA Media Arts Teacher at Palo Alto High School, Wojcicki famously raised three very influential daughters Anne Wojcicki, the founder and CEO of 23andMe, Janet Wojcicki, a professor of pediatrics at the University of California at San Francisco, and Susan Wojcicki, the CEO ofYouTube. As a mother and educator known affectionately to her students as Woj, she claims to have stumbled upon secrets to success. Though she does suggest some interesting tactics, the content here is not really the core issue. The core issue is that Wojcickis focus on success outside of the broader economic and social context just adds to the overbrimming anxiety of modern parenting and, ultimately, isnt helpful.Lets be clear. Woj is no monster. She recently toldForbesin a recent QA that her definition of success is having positive relationships. T his is great. This is also fairly irrelevant given the way that her book is being marketed. The book is about raising kids to make money and climb the economic ladder. If that wasnt the point, she would not be considered credentialled to write it. Whatever exists behind the front cover, which promises Radical Results, this is a tome about training kids to be successful, which is - among many other things - impossible. This is fine advice, but it doesnt take reverse-engineering the childhood of a genetic start-up-firma CEO in order to arrive there. In fact, inHow to Raise Successful PeopleWojcicki has effectively described the authoritative parenting style observed by developmental psychologist Dr. Diana Baumrind in 1966. Baumrind found that authoritative parenting, in which a parent is highly responsive and caring to a child while setting firm boundaries and using positive reinforcement rather than harsh discipline, resulted in positive outcomes compared to harsher or more permissi ve styles. So, taken on its pedagogic merits, its safe to say that some parents who crack open How to Raise Successful People will find helpful if not particularly cutting edge advice. Good on Wojcicki for rewriting it. Still, the book is deeply troubling because it is being marketed based on the success of Wojs children. This perpetuates the myth that kids can be raised to have high-profile, lucrative careers. This is post hoc ergo propter hoc nonsense. Just because Wojs kids are successful, doesnt mean that their childhood had much to do with it (though living in wealthy Palo Alto during a tech boom is probably good advice for results-oriented parents with money to burn). There is far too much about child rearing that cant be controlled for. How much of her daughters success is tied to the fact that they were raised by a woman who was so driven and smart that she completed her education at Berkley in three years? How much of her daughters success is due to the fact that their mother was fiercely independent and passed those values to her kids? How much of it is simply related to the fact that her daughters were raised in a solidly upper-middle-class California community by an award-winning educator and a Stanford University physics professor?Lots. Lots and lots. Enough that the rest of the story is pretty much irrelevant. Wojs daughters may have tremendous merits, but they didnt succeed because we live in a meritocratic society. Leaping to that conclusion is intellectually ridiculous even if it is great marketing. In the end, maybe thats the real trick of the Wojcicki daughters success - not a catchy acronym but the uncontrollable circumstances of where they were born and to whom.Heres the thing If parents share Wojcickis definition of success - good relationships, a place to live, a job and passions - they dont need to read her book. In fact, all they need to do is love their kids, be present and ignore the marketing machine telling them that success is a h igh profile gig in Silicon Valley. This article originally appeared on Fatherly. You might also enjoyNew neuroscience reveals 4 rituals that will make you happyStrangers know your social class in the first seven words you say, study finds10 lessons from Benjamin Franklins daily schedule that will double your productivityThe worst mistakes you can make in an interview, according to 12 CEOs10 habits of mentally strong people
